Frequently Asked Questions

  • Not necessarily. Some people come with a clear sense of what they’d like to explore, while others simply know that something doesn’t feel quite right.

If you’re unsure where to start, that’s okay. Therapy can be a space to gently explore what it’s like to not yet have the words.

  • No. Many people begin therapy before reaching crisis point. Starting earlier can create space to reflect, notice patterns, and make sense of what’s going on, rather than waiting until things feel unmanageable.

  • It’s normal to feel unsure at the start. You don’t need to be certain before reaching out.

A free introductory call can offer a sense of how it feels to speak together and whether my way of working feels supportive for you. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we can take things at a pace that allows space for questions, reflection, and choice.

  • I work with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, self-doubt, emotional overwhelm, grief and loss, identity questions, relationship difficulties, and the longer-term impact of early experiences.

You can find a fuller (though not exhaustive) list on my Individual Online Counselling page. It’s also okay if what you’re experiencing doesn’t fit neatly into a category — we can explore that together.

  • Clients often describe me as warm, down-to-earth, and compassionate. I’m not a blank-slate therapist — while I’ll offer space to reflect and explore, I’ll also share gentle observations where I think they may be helpful.

I aim to be human and relatable in the room, and where it feels appropriate, a sense of humour can be part of our work together too.

  • Sessions usually take place weekly or fortnightly and are booked for the same day and time each week. I don’t currently offer sessions at a lower frequency, as this can limit the effectiveness of the work.

Therapy may be time-limited or open-ended, depending on what brings you to counselling. We can talk this through during the initial consultation and review things together as we go.

  • No. I work in a collaborative, reflective way that supports meaningful change over time, rather than offering quick fixes or one-off sessions.

If you’re hoping for something more directive or solution-focused, I’m happy to help you consider what kind of support might suit you better.

  • Sessions take place via Zoom at an agreed day and time. You’ll need a stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable.

Many people find that being in their own environment helps them feel more at ease. Online therapy can offer the same depth and connection as in-person work, without the need to travel.

  • Yes. What you share in sessions is confidential, with a small number of legal and ethical exceptions, which I talk through with you at initial consultation stage.

I attend regular clinical supervision, as required by my professional body and any material discussed is anonymised. I am also registered with the ICO, and all personal data is stored in line with GDPR requirements. Further details are available in my Privacy Policy.

  • I ask for at least 72 hours’ notice if you need to cancel a session. Sessions cancelled with less notice, or missed entirely, are charged at the full fee.

If you arrive late, the session will still end at the scheduled time, as I’m unable to extend sessions. If you are more than 15 minutes late, the session will be treated as cancelled.

If a session is missed without contact, I will follow up within two working days. If I haven’t heard from you within 7 days, I’ll assume you no longer wish to continue and will close your file.

  • That’s absolutely okay. Therapy only works when both the therapist and the approach feel like a good fit for you.

You’re free to stop at any point, and I’m happy to support you in thinking about alternative options if that would feel helpful.

  • Yes. I am recognised by Aviva, AXA, and WPA.

  • You can get in touch via the contact form on this website or by emailing hello@thecuriouslykindcounsellor.com to arrange a free initial call.

I aim to reply to all enquiries within 48 hours (excluding weekends and bank holidays). If you haven’t heard back within this time, please check your junk folder or feel free to follow up by email, as technical issues can occasionally occur.

If you have a question that isn’t answered here, you’re welcome to get in touch.
